Big Picture Learning Australia

Big Picture Learning Australia (BPLA) is a non-profit organisation whose core business is the transformation of education in response to a rapidly-changing world.

BPLA is designed for students to learn through their own interests and/ passions. This is done by students following our Learning Through Internship (LTI) – Internship Cycle. This cycle provides the opportunity for students to explore the world around them, while understanding they can return to the start of their journey at any time:

Internship Cycle

The Internship Cycle provides our students with the following opportunities:

  • Choosing something that they love and want to learn more about.

The learning will be more personal, meaningful and fun.

  • Learning that what they love includes mathematics, science and literacy.

Therefore they will appreciate the relevance and importance of these key areas.

  • Students will develop a learning plan in collaboration with their teacher and family.

  • The program is designed around personalised learning related to the students’ interests and passions.

  • Students do the work that matters to them and to the community. This includes project, research and course work. All of the students’ work is collected in a portfolio which is shared with family members, friends, mentors and school staff each term.

  • We work to make learning real by visiting different businesses and work sites to understand what happens there, what skills are being used and needed.

  • Students in years 9 to 12 will get the opportunity to visit businesses and work sites for ‘Tag-A-Long’ days and ‘Internships’ under their Mentor.

  • Students are expected to get involved in a community project that will develop leadership and teamwork skills, as well as a stronger connection to our Roebourne community.
